Just when I was calming my rage after Scarlett Johansson announced her skincare line “the outset”, I was hit by a new skincare brand “Cay Skin” by none other than a famous supermodel Winnie Harlow. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about celebrities. Half my world revolves around them. Celebrities news is basically fun in my life. I watch almost all reality TV shows, watch all the movies that get released on streaming services.
But the thing that gets to my nerves is these multi-millionaire celebs being greedy enough to suck money out of their low-income to a middle-class young fan and provide half-ass products. I bet you that none of the celebrities who came up with their skincare line uses their own skincare products daily. Can you imagine kylie using kylie’s skin walnut scrub on her face, hell Nah!! She has the best dermatologist and plastic surgeon at her disposal. I love Rihanna and I would buy her makeup any day but Skincare Nah. I bet she doesn’t even use her skincare daily.
All these celebs who get all new and upcoming tech facial treatment and whatnot, sponsoring different beauty brands in past just come out with clean beauty that made their skin the way it is just to manipulate their young audience. For what? To make more money. Now that the whole beauty world is keen on skincare, suddenly all these celebs like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Scar Jo, Winnie Harlow, and many more come with half-ass products. Please No. They have money to put in the research and technology, work on it and get the line that works. Don’t just get the generic item from a factory and slap your name on it just for sucking money out of your young fans. This is just a Scam. These celebrities are scamming. Imagine J Lo using Olive oil on her skin, it is the biggest lie. She gets the thermage treatment done, to look like the way she does in her 50s.
I would rather buy the skincare line that celebrities esthetician or doctor comes out with. Like dr. strum, nurse Jamie or Augustinus Bader, I would buy their line, at least they know what they are doing. A couple of years ago it was make up and trust me I had been naive 20 something years old and bought Kylie’s lip kit. And I ain’t even mad at that. It was kylie’s aesthetic. She was known during that time for her suddenly fuller-looking lips. However it was the worst purchase, it made my lips dry and crusty. But why does it looks good on kylie and other YouTubers? Well because they all had lip filler. And I am not against it, if I was not afraid of needles I would have been the first to get everything fix. To normal folks like us, that lip kit will look dry and cracked.
Recently I saw a youtube video of Ariana Grande on her makeup brand “R.E.M” channel, makeup artist and drag star Gottmik doing makeup on her. During the video you can clearly see, she was not involved in her beauty line creation. She doesn’t know her product’s name, no idea what they smell like. The audacity is mind-blowing. In retrospect I have respect for Salena, at least she seems to be involved in the creative process of her brand.
I would buy Skims from Kim Kardashian because that’s her aesthetics or maybe alcohol drinks from Khloe or kris if they ever come out with it in the future. I was digging Good American jeans by Khloe as it had a purpose and we (kuwtk fans) know the story behind the idea. Even when Rihanna came out with Fenty Beauty, it had a purpose. It included people of color like me. I didn’t have to go all breaking bad with the different foundations to make the shade that matches my undertone. I would always respect celebrities if they came up with a product that matches their aesthetic.
So stop feeding these multi-millionaire celebrities your hard on money on their half-ass skincare. Rather buy good and affordable skincare that works like The Ordinary, The Inkey list, fresh cosmetics, or even youth to the people. These products work and are made by people who have been in the industry.
Guess I will be sticking to the chemical-based skincare line that I understand and my trusty sunscreen. Not ultra woke clean beauty that doesn’t think water is chemical and some supermodel who dissed her dad to promote her sunscreen.
